Funnily enough, a lot of the 90s punk bands (notably NOFX and also The Offspring to some extent) were influenced by Rich Kids on LSD (RKL) which was a band far, far superior to their successors and also rather technical. It makes me wonder what would have happened in an alternate universe if drug problems (not surprising I'm sure) didn't screw them up beyond repair. They seriously had a pretty all-star lineup.

Not sure I'd run out and buy that (cuz its OOP and expensive), but its definitely listenable. Unsurprisingly, punk/hardcore/post-hardcore with a technical bent I'm fairly open to. Its usually the vocals that kill things for me.

Hmm, it's pretty cheap on US Amazon. Funnily enough, some of those sellers are Japanese ones. Laugh Just as a fair warning, "Keep Laughing" is basically just straight skate punk, so there's no fancy technical stuff on that one. Also "ReActivate" has a messed up lineup and a way different sound (that's more like a different band ripping off of the RKL name for album sales). The other two albums are great though.

I'm not 100% sure what skatepunk is, but I see Unlimits get labelled as that.

No idea on Unlimits. It's kind of a broad term, but RKL played an early/aggressive version of it and i would be surprised if Unlimits actually sounded anything like this.

That was fairly thrashy. Now I'm trying to figure out the difference between that and crossover (or hell, just fast punk rock).

Yeah, Unlimits sounds pretty different to that. They have the tempo down, but the riffing is completely different. Its also more melodic/poppy (but I refuse to call this pop punk).

Oh wow, I didn't know Unlimits was so punky. I guess I just assumed they were one of those indie rock bands you loved so much. Tongue Those two songs are more similar than you think really. Just crank up the distortion on the Unlimits song, speed the tempo a bit, and then add some nastier vocals and you're in the same ballpark. The chord progressions are pretty similar to my ears.

They're pretty all over the place stylistically (not a shock, being Japanese and all), but a good chunk of their stuff is punk-ish (esp. older). They do tour with a lot of bands in the indie scene over there. I wouldn't dare put bands like them, Amelie, Uplift Spice, etc in the punk section here - they seem like completely different things to me. I do notice quite a few indie bands I listen to are quite punky.
