The shitty thing is that you'll find that that happens a lot (you've made your plans, then Band XYZ announces a gig just before or after you've booked your flight).

On the flipside, you may also find (as I did) that bands also announce shows later on, that are within your timeframe - so it cuts both ways.

I don't know if you've been to Japan for shows before, but if you haven't, you can generally hit the bands up to reserve tickets via their Twitter account, or reserve via their website.

For a few of the bigger bands, you'll need to use a ticket concierge service that will reserve tickets for you, since non-Japanese can't generally reserve tickets for shows.
My best advice would be to cobble together a list of bands you'd be interested in seeing, then finding out one by one (from their websites for example) who is actually playing when you're in their area. I traveled across Japan last September and that was how I identified shows I wanted to potentially see was the above. (We ended up settling on one large festival so it didn't matter in the end). I'm unaware of any site that would conveniently list bands playing, but it would indeed be useful.
