Power Metal General Discussion
#1
This thread is a catch-all for smaller bands that don't really warrant their own thread. If they get more notable, a thread can be opened up for them. Bands with just a demo/EP or something will probably get their thread merged into this one. Please wait until a full-length is released or if the band is significant enough to warrant a lot of discussion first.

If a band is rather old-school sounding, they go in the Heavy Metal/Hard Rock sub-forum. If they have a lot of thrash metal elements (like 50% or so), they go in the Speed/Thrash Metal subforum. If the band incorperates a lot of genres and over half of the material isn't power metal, use the J-Metal subforum

I'll start with Mars Brigade.

A young up-and-coming band that reminds me a bit of newer Galneryus with something like Marchen Station thrown in. Their guitarist is really good and they should have one hell of a good career ahead of them.

Good idea. Would get too crowded very quickly if every tiny band got a thread.

Like larger bands like Galneryus, Aldious, Light Bringer, etc I'd probably give their own thread. Destrose I almost want to include all their offshoots in one thread (bar Mary's Blood, who's actually bigger than Destrose ever was now).

Looks like Ancient Myth just lost their guitarist and keyboardist. Their guitarist was in 2 other bands (Valthus and Veiled in Scarlet), so I can understand wanting to get rid of one. I liked their keyboardist - kinda sucks she left (moving/family reasons). They already have a replacement.

This just popped up on my twitter feed. Completely new to me, but apparently they've been around for awhile. More heavy than power, but whatever. They have promise, so hopefully they'll release a full-length soon.

Tenrin's a pretty neat band. Their 3rd album is all over the place though, some songs sounding very Euro influenced, while some others sound more ballsy in a USPM vein (complete with a grittier vocal style). Everything is completely in Japanese, which is a very good thing. I wish more bands would do this.

This new Valthus single is probably the best material I've heard from them. The vox will always be an acquired taste though (he's pretty nuts with the vibrato), but I'm starting to get used to him.

One of the best up-and-coming power metal bands at the moment. Nice vocalist (a bit off here and tehre in this performance though), plus a really good bassist. Astonishing that their album is self-released.

Mars Brigade uploaded a new demo song (that was previously only available as a venue-exclusive release). Sounds pretty good.

I wish Hydrangea would reform and do something new. Razma (their vocalist) left to join some electronic/industrial band.
