[Progressive Rock] 88Kasho Junrei (八十八ヶ所巡礼)

This crazy three-piece is a band I've fallen in love with recently. Their music is like some kind of bizarre amalgamation of psychedelic, jam band, progressive, and mathy elements. They can get technical as fuck, and the guitarist loves to go nuts with dissonances and shredding. The rhythm section, of course, is also ace. Their imagery is pretty weird/retarded, and there should be an epilepsy warning for some of their videos.

Holy shit they released a new song out of nowhere yesterday. Time to start the hype train! Hopefully that will mean a new album soon. They are overdue.

This is one of their more psychedelic/laid-back tracks, but I like it (generally prefer their shorter/more aggressive ones) and it's a step up over their 2015 album (not a bad album but kinda weak by their standards). Not sure wtf is going on in the video (the drummer randomly decided to be a blonde lol). Anyways, once they announce a new album or something I'll get a news thread going. For now, enjoy.

Sweet, they released another song. No concrete news on a new album though.

Yet another wtf video. Pretty solid song, but I do have a minor quibble. I like the band the best when they let loose and go all out (ex. compare this one to 霊界ヌ〜ボ〜♨ in the OP), but this one is fairly subdued until the last minute or so. Of course, that part is fantastic and the whole song is good, but I'm just saying that I'd ideally like a little more.

And we've got yet another MV but still no news of an album or anything. Weird.

Out of the new songs, this one is easily my favorite. It rocks hard and the solo at the end is awesome. Yet another wtf video as usual.

Hurray, someone else likes them besides me finally! Laugh Just a fair warning, their first couple of albums are out of print (actually I still haven't gotten them for some reason). They jam pretty hard though and are a ton of fun to listen to.

OK, they are pretty cool, but to be totally honest, his voice gets kind of annoying after a while, I noticed it particularly in that 3rd song in the original post, but that song is also almost twice as long as the others.

Huh really? I don't think there's anything particularly annoying/strange about his voice. It gets the job done.

In that 7:17 song he is very repetitive.

Oh that's what you mean. Yeah, that song repeats the chorus vocal lines a million times, but the instrumental backup changes and switches up a lot so I never minded it. That one is more like an extended jam. They have a few longer psychedelicy songs like that, but that particular one is not typical. For what it's worth, that one is easily my least favorite song on that album (0088). I agree that they're better when they're shorter and more to the point which is the rest of the album.
