Which OS Do You Use?
#1
Check all that apply.

Right now, it's just Linux Mint, Lubuntu (ancient laptop), and Windows 7.

I used to be firmly with Windows XP and Windows 7, but Microsoft has pissed me off for the last time, so I've decided to make it a plan to eliminate it from my setup as much as possible. Currently, I only have one Windows 7 installation, but that's only so I can get acquainted with Linux's software. Wine is a great way to get to use most Windows programs, as I still depend on a couple of them. Once I've finally been satisfied with my alternative software choices, I'll finally be rid of ALL Windows installations.

I currently use Artix Linux (somewhat obscure fork of Arch Linux) on all my machines. No Windows for me. I abandoned that around 2012-2013 or so. Wink

Windows 7 on my desktop, Windows 10 on my laptop. I used to have a MacBook with an old Mac OS X version, but it broke down and I did not want to pay 1000 euros for a laptop again. I hate Windows 10 though. It seems to do everything in its power to discourage users from fiddling with the settings at all. I like Windows 7 though. It's nothing special, but it's stable and it does what it's supposed to do.

Windows 7 is the last good OS from Microsoft. I'm sure they'll release another decent one after Windows 10. Microsoft seems to have a pattern of suckiness — one or two shitty OS releases in a row, one good OS release, and then repeat.

Yeah it looked to me like Windows 8 was an attempt to take over the smartphone and tablet market. One that failed miserably, because no one actually had a Windows Phone.

I'm glad I only use my laptop for work and JMF reasons. I have my desktop for more complex matters Wink

Yeah, that shit sucks. Ubuntu recently tried catering to that market, and it's horrible. If you're thinking of trying out a user-friendly Linux distro for good, don't use Ubuntu. Instead, consider giving Linux Mint a try. Just burn a DVD-R or write its data to a USB flash drive, and then boot from it. That way, you can get a feel for it before you're ready to make up your mind. You can install it alongside Windows.

You didn't get the memo? Windows 10 is the last official version. They switched a service model, and it'll just be ongoing updates.

Oh, I didn't actually know that. I guess I jumped ship at the right time!

To be fair, I do prefer rolling-type releases over official versioned releases, but it's Micro$oft so it's not like the updates will actually be pleasant. Wink

No, I'm done for real this time. I just backed up my remaining Windows 7's data to an external HDD, and going to replace the OS with Linux Mint.

Oh, and new version of Linux Mint to be released next month or so. More information at their blog.
